Shiny Onix is Onix's shiny form: a different colour, and stronger, with 30% more health and move damage than a normal Onix. Shinies are the strongest Pokémon in the game.
How rare it is
Every Onix you defeat on a map has a 1 in 6,000 chance to drop Shiny Onix. A hunting chain on Onix makes it up to 4× likelier, and the Shiny Charm 1.5×.
Where to find it
Beat Onix on these maps (a shiny sometimes defends a map itself, stronger than its kind):
| Map | Region | Level |
|---|---|---|
| Pewter Gym | Kanto | 4 |
| Rock Tunnel | Kanto | 16 |
| Elite Four Bruno | Kanto | 47 |
| Oreburgh Gym (Roark) | Sinnoh | 62 |
Evolving it
A shiny evolves into the next form's shiny, which is rarer, so it also needs Glimmer Stones:
- Evolves into Shiny Steelix with 3 Glimmer Stones, on top of what Onix needs
Past level 100
A shiny never becomes a Nightmare form: at 5★ and level 100 it Ascends instead, keeping its shine and its name, and climbs the Nightmare ranks to level 999. See The Nightmare World.
