Gyms and badges
Each region has gyms, each with a leader and a team. Beat a gym to earn its badge. Badges open more of the game:
- a region's Elite Four and champion need all of that region's badges;
- raids open at 4 badges;
- the Battle Frontier opens at 8.
Gyms don't block the maps after them: you can come back for them later.
| Region | Maps | Gyms | Defenders |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kanto | 45 | 8 | level 1-75 |
| Johto | 26 | 8 | level 37-57 |
| Hoenn | 24 | 8 | level 40-67 |
| Sinnoh | 22 | 8 | level 41-71 |
| Unova | 21 | 8 | level 44-86 |
| Kalos | 19 | 7 | level 50-94 |
| Alola | 13 | 0 | level 46-98 |
| Galar | 20 | 7 | level 51-99 |
| Paldea | 19 | 6 | level 40-97 |
Gym floors
Once you clear a gym, an Elite Four member or a champion, you can climb it again floor by floor, 15 floors in all:
- each floor adds 3 levels to the defenders and 2 to its stamina cost;
- higher floors bring evolved, extra and shiny defenders;
- rewards grow by a fifth each floor, and held items come in better tiers;
- from floor 5, floors can drop Ancient Stones and Mystic Stars.
Every fifth floor of each gym pays a one-time reward, claimed in the Floors window:
| Floor | One-time reward (each gym) |
|---|---|
| 5 | 30× Stardust, Exp. Candy M |
| 10 | Ribbons, Held Item Box |
| 15 | 2× Ribbons, Exp. Candy L |
Team Rocket's Hideout has floors too: see Team Rocket.
